How does acupuncture work?

In short, placing acupuncture needles at specific points on the body sends a variety of signals that stimulate your body’s natural healing mechanisms. Want to know more? Check here.

What does acupuncture feel like?

Acupuncture needles are tiny, like hair-thin. About 15 of them could fit inside a hypodermic needle. Sometimes there’s a slight pinch when placed, and sometimes nothing at all. Once placed, people sometimes describe the sensation as tingling, swirling, warm, heavy, or buzzing.

How many treatments will I need?

This varies so much depending on the nature of the condition, how long you’ve had it, your over-all health and any complicating factors, and frequency of treatments. While many people will feel some improvement after the first session, almost everyone has noticeable improvement within the first 4-6 visits. The beauty of Chinese Medicine is that it helps relieve your symptoms AND improves your overall health, instead of just being a temporary quick-fix.

Are herbs safe?

Chinese herbs are safe when prescribed by a well-trained herbalist. At Centerpath we have comprehensive training to carefully plan formulas and dosages while avoiding any known drug-herb interactions. The Texas Board of Medical Examiners licenses us to prescribe Chinese Herbs. We choose herbs from companies who adhere to U.S. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), guidelines set forth by the World Health Organization to ensure the quality, efficacy and safety of products.

What should I expect during my first visit?

During your first visit at Centerpath we will have an in-depth conversation about your health history, conduct a Chinese Medicine tongue and pulse diagnosis and any other relevant physical exams, and discuss any nutrition and lifestyle recommendations and herbal prescriptions. You will then receive a relaxing and rejuvenating treatment where you may even have a nice nap.  We’ll also talk about a recommended treatment plan specifically tailored to help you meet your health goals
